Interplay Productions

Interplay Entertainment Corp. was an American video game developer and publisher that played a significant role in the video game industry during the 1990s and early 2000s. Founded in 1983 by Brian Fargo, Interplay was headquartered in Southern California and became known for its diverse portfolio of games across various genres.
Interplay started as a developer and publisher of role-playing games (RPGs) for home computers. One of its early successes was "The Bard's Tale" series, which was well-received and helped establish Interplay's reputation in the RPG genre.
Interplay faced financial difficulties and struggled to maintain profitability. This led to a series of financial setbacks and restructurings throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s. Due to financial constraints, Interplay sold the rights to some of its most valuable franchises, including "Fallout" and "Baldur's Gate," to other companies. In 2004, Interplay's financial struggles led to its decision to shut down Black Isle Studios and lay off most of its staff. The company went through bankruptcy and liquidation proceedings.
