Abandonware DOS title

First Samurai

First Samurai is a classic action-platformer game originally released in 1991. The game was initially available on the Amiga and Atari ST, with later ports to the Commodore 64, DOS, and Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). The game follows the journey of a samurai warrior, simply known as the "First Samurai", who seeks revenge against the evil demon king, the Demon King, who destroyed his master. The player controls the samurai as he traverses a series of levels, battling enemies with a mix of swordplay and magical abilities. The game also includes light puzzle-solving elements, where the player must find and use specific items to progress.

First Samurai review

Zero (1991): "The graphics match the sound for inventiveness. The screens are packed with brightly-coloured 'bits', working on all sorts of complicated parallax levels, with lovely graduated 'setting sun' sky effects. Like most games these days, Samurai smacks of this and that. It's as huge as Turrican, the gameplay is similar to Torvak, it looks a bit like Stormlord and the screen bounces about in the best Strider fashion. Samurai would be a pretty good game if it had nothing to add to this, but it does! It does! It does!"

Retro gamer collector's corner:

A revival of the game was announced in 1998 for the Nintendo 64, and it entered early planning stages of development, but was cancelled shortly after, and never released in any capacity.
