The Games Machine - UK (1989): "In fact, the graphics complement the text so well, you'd think Infocom had been doing graphic adventures for years. The parser - not totally perfect - is strong enough to do just about anything and there was nothing obviously deficient. The numerous puzzles are a real challenge, but still, thankfully, logical. I hope Shogun is the first of a series of new graphic adventures and not the end of the pure Infocom adventure as is rumoured. Shogun is destined to become another Infocom classic. Watch out Magnetic Scrolls and Level 9 - Infocom are back!"
