Populous 2: Trials of the Olympian Gods

Populous 2: Trials of the Olympian Gods is a classic sandbox strategy god game. As the title suggests, its setting is loosely based on ancient Greek mythology, and you play as a deity (hence the "god game" label). Populous 2 is the sequel to the highly acclaimed Populous, designed by Peter Molyneux. It was developed by Bullfrog Productions and published by Electronic Arts in 1993 for PC and Mac.

Populous 2: Trials of the Olympian Gods review

Abandonware DOS: "If I have to be completely honest, I didn't enjoy much the first Populous. The concept was great, but the inevitable armageddon bell ended every game too soon. Populous 2, on the other hand, allowed me to take everything easier, plan ahead (sometimes) and it felt more like a simulation. I don't know if Populous 2 was the perfect god-game, but certainly was a great game to me."

Retro gamer collector's corner:

A data disk was also released for Populous II, titled Populous II: The Challenge Games. This was set in Japanese mythology instead of Greek, and had each level as its individual challenge, slightly in the style of a puzzle game.
