Often hailed as the best of the trilogy, Star Trail doubles down on everything its predecessor attempted—and somehow makes it all smoother. The world feels richer, the quests more nuanced, and the sense of progression far more satisfying. You still have to manage hunger, exhaustion, injuries, and your party’s enthusiastic opinions about everything, but the overall flow is tighter. The central quest, involving the legendary Salamander Stone, pulls you through a series of well-constructed challenges that mix combat, diplomacy, and exploration. It’s the kind of RPG that rewards patience and punishes carelessness, yet never stops feeling worth the effort.
Electronic Games (1995): "The graphics and animations in the game are state-of-the-art. The CD-ROM version of the game features extra cinematic sequences as well as digital speech and sound effects. Add to this Star Trail’s lengthy story, along with minutely-detailed player statistics (including over 50 skills and negative and positive player attributes) and a diary that automatically keeps track of the play- er’s game progress, and you have got an RPG that will most likely intrigue just about any RPG fan."
