Ubisoft Entertainment SA is a French video game company known for developing and publishing some of the most popular video game franchises in the industry. Ubisoft was founded on March 28, 1986, by five brothers from the Guillemot family: Christian, Claude, Gérard, Michel, and Yves Guillemot. The company was established in Carentoir, France.
Initially, Ubisoft focused on distributing video games from other developers in France and eventually expanded its distribution network across Europe. By the late 1980s, Ubisoft began developing its own games, leveraging its growing knowledge of the market and distribution. In 1994 Ubisoft opened its first in-house game development studio, Ubisoft Paris, marking the start of its transition to a developer and publisher of video games.
Later, Ubisoft acquired several studios, including Red Storm Entertainment and Blue Byte, expanding its development capabilities and global presence. Ubisoft continues to develop its key franchises like Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy series, with new installments and expansions.
